Kids reading

Every Friday at Rickover is designated as Drop Everything and Read Day. During Homeroom, every student in every classroom takes time to read. They get to choose what they read and they also get the opportunity to write about what they read. We are working on getting classroom libraries established. Through a grant, we've brought in books to all reading, language arts and social studies classrooms. We want to give students at Rickover the opportunity to read!

Additionally, Rickover welcomes a new librarian, Ms. Martinez. She has visited every homeroom to engage with students about the library, showcase a variety of books, and give students the opportunity to check out the books she shared. Ms. Martinez splits her time between Rickover, Strassburg, and Wagoner schools, so her availability at Rickover is limited to certain days. Despite this, students are actively checking out books from the library! This year alone, over 300 books have been checked out. Ms. Martinez has the philosophy that there is a book for everyone and she is ready to help them find the perfect read!
